NIMA training season opening in Ukraine: report from 2008

Historical news — 24 September 2008. This is a translation of the original Russian report. Event dates, quotations and contact details belong to that report; they do not announce a forthcoming event. The interviewee’s statement about compulsory NIMA qualifications is reproduced as a historical quotation, not as a legal requirement.

On 21 September, the official opening ceremony of the training season for the international NIMA (Netherlands Institute of Marketing) qualification programmes took place. Jacob Stolker, NIMA coordinator for Central and Eastern Europe, gave the introductory session and opened the ceremony. The event was held in the large conference hall of the Forum business centre.

“The opening ceremony for the programmes was a tremendous success! We drank champagne and discussed the distinctive features of Ukrainian marketing with Jacob Stolker, the Dutchman who opened the ceremony. We were thanked for the good organisation of the event, our strong customer focus, our friendly approach to NIMA participants and our quick response to their wishes. The organisers are very pleased by this reaction from participants: we work especially hard for our clients, Ukraine’s marketing elite,” said Anton Baboglo, coordinator of the Netherlands Institute of Marketing (NIMA) programmes in Ukraine.

In his introductory lecture, Jacob Stolker spoke about the NIMA programmes, competence-based learning, NIMA’s practical approach, the participants’ role and the examinations at the end of the course. The coordinator of the Netherlands Institute of Marketing programmes considers NIMA to offer the best European marketing programmes. In his view, this is hardly surprising: learning in practice from practitioners has been regarded as the most effective approach since ancient times.

“In the Netherlands, a professional is not allowed to work as a marketer without a NIMA diploma. They simply will not be hired. I see marketing, marketing communications and advertising gaining increasing momentum in Ukraine. I think this is precisely why NIMA is entirely relevant in this country. Today I went into the metro and saw a great many advertisements in completely different formats, with different creative ideas and ways of presenting information. Companies want to develop and make themselves known; they need marketing and advertising. The Dutch have more than a hundred years of experience in these fields, which is why I believe Dutch marketing programmes have arrived in your country at just the right time. Incidentally, I saw an ING Bank advertisement in the metro and was delighted: it is a Dutch bank! The whole station was covered with it — very effective. Their marketing director teaches on the NIMA programmes in Ukraine!” Mr Stolker said.

“I would also like to make a bold but equally serious statement: none of our participants will regret studying with NIMA. We have made a firm commitment to training both young and experienced specialists and have created the conditions for an effective, well-organised learning process: outstanding lecturers who are leading marketers from Ukraine and Europe, a business simulation, an electronic learning-support system and masterclasses by world-renowned marketing and marketing-communications experts. The Dutch have been practising marketing for more than a hundred years. Amsterdam is still considered Europe’s marketing capital in terms of the number of advertising and marketing agencies and the scale of the campaigns they conduct. So believe me: we know what we are doing and how to develop highly qualified specialists who are among the best in this field!” Jacob Stolker continued.

“To tell prospective participants more about NIMA, the organisers and administrators of NIMA in Ukraine are holding a series of presentations. The next presentation will take place on Thursday, 25 September, at 19:00. To register, send a request to eccd@eccd.com.ua or contact the organisers on 8 044 587 60 54,” said Olga Kolyadina, business development manager at the European Centre for Competence Development.
